Project Overview

The “Helping Hands” project is made to hold a PCB or other electrical components in front of the user while soldering. The exact orientation of the electronics being held is manipulated by actuating various motors through the convenient button board.

My Role & Contributions

Describe your specific responsibilities and contributions to this project. For example:

  • Lead CAD Designer / Developer / Assembler
  • Responsible for custom 3D printed rack and pinion
  • Aided the development of software using sensor inputs.

Key Features / Technologies Used

  • A stepper motor driven worm gear system moves the entire project either towards or away from the user.
  • One high torque DC motor to turn the driving gear changing the width between claws depending on the spin direction.
  • The larger (red/black) 360 degree servo motors rotate the claws for different angles towards the user.
  • the actual claw mechanism is a small rack and pinion that is operated by a simple SG90 servo motor.
